Official: Aston Martin releases copious images of the Vanquish [w/video]

2013 Aston Martin Vanquish

The multimedia dam has finally been opened on the Aston Martin Vanquish. The curviest version of Aston's muscled design language spent a bunch of time in Italy with Aston's favorite photographer, Rene Staud, showing off its angles and colors in the Tuscan dusk.

What's more, there's official driving footage and Aston put together a three-part video series on just how all those photos of the 565-horsepower "super grand tourer" were captured. So, no need to dally here; enjoy perusing the the huge gallery above or the four videos below.

Official: Audi bringing digital rearview mirror from racing to production

Audi R8 etron digital rearview mirror screen

Audi's digital rearview mirror is officially going from the Le Mans clobbering, race-only Audi R18 to the road-going R8 e-tron (click the image above to enlarge). Lacking a rear window put the R8 e-tron in the same rear-view challenged category as its racing brethren, and so has been provided the same solution.

The 7.7-inch AMOLED screen receives the feed from a tiny camera just a few millimeters across. The screen is dimmable, will automatically reduce the glare from the headlights of cars behind, and can be switched off if the driver just isn't with it. For now, it appears the screen will just display the camera image, but Audi says it's working on adding more information to the display in the future. You can find out more about it in the press release below.

Official: Honda releases first 2013 Accord Coupe pictures

2013 Honda Accord Coupe - Front three-quarter view, blue

Honda released a pair of images of its new-for-2013 Accord sedan early this morning, and it's followed them up with a pair of matching Coupe photos (we've added some cropped/zoomed images so you can see some of the details better).

The two-door bodystyle looks quite similar to the rakish outgoing model, with comparable greenhouse and prominent profile creases, but styling has been cleaned up as well, with better integrated hood shutlines and a dumping of the love/hate "upside-down" door handles that marked out the previous Accord. Unlike the new-for-2013 sedan, the Coupe also has unique squared-off lower fascias with recessed lighting - particularly noticeable in the rear.

Up front, a mesh grille with a thinner U-shaped surround insert takes the place of the sedan's more conservative slatted affair, and the headlamp fixtures are unique with larger amber turn signals. The lower air inlet looks similar in style to the sedan, but the surrounding fascia is different, incorporating round fog lamps in blacked-out faux mesh recesses.

The rear end also receives unique taillamps, and they appear smaller than their family-minded counterpart. Also unlike the sedan, they don't extend into the trunklid, which appears to have a markedly narrower opening to go with its built-in lip spoiler and CHMSL. The Accord Coupe's most prominent feature in the rear is arguably its square-jawed bumper cap, which has vertical rectangle reflectors and a horizontal sliver of brightwork that the sedan lacks. As with the saloon, twin exhaust outlets are shown on this V6 model, but they have unique oval-shaped finishers, where the sedan has more traditional round pieces.

What do you think of the new Accord Coupe at first glance? Weigh in with your thoughts in Comments.

Official: Audi offering R8 Exclusive Selection Editions for 2012

2012 Audi R8 Exclusive Selection

We've seen the glory that is the 2013 Audi R8, but before that new model officially goes on sale early next year, the current quad-rung supercar is offering up one final parting piece: the Exclusive Selection edition. And it's certainly going to be, um, exclusive.

The special R8 will be available in both V8 and V10 coupe forms, and Audi will only build a total of 50 examples (20 V8s, 30 V10s). V8 models can be had with a new Daytona Gray matte exterior paint, complete with a carbon fiber splitter, unique 19-inch wheels, carbon fiber rear diffuser, new black elements on the grille and exhaust finishers, R8 GT taillamps and red brake calipers. More changes are found inside, where a new leather seating package is on hand, including crimson elements and contrast stitching, a different navigation surround and a thicker-contoured steering wheel.

More of the same elements are found on the V10. The exterior is painted in Ibis White with Brilliant Black exterior features and E-Tron 19-inch wheels, and inside, there's a carbon fiber cockpit with black and white contrast stitching.

Pricing for the 2012 R8 Exclusive Selection starts at $137,700 for the V8 with a six-speed manual transmission. If you want R-tronic (you don't), that'll be an extra $9,100 (you really, really don't). V10/manual coupes start at $161,500 and R-tronic can be had with the ten-pot R8 for the same price premium.

Scroll down for the official release, and click through the high-res image gallery above to see the exclusively Exclusive R8 for yourself.

Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2 official: Windows 8, NFC and a fingerprint reader, arrives in October

Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2 official Windows 8, NFC, a fingerprint reader and an optional keyboard

If you've been paying attention, you not only knew Lenovo was readying a ThinkPad-branded Windows 8 tablet, but you probably already noticed all the leaked specs, too. Indeed, we first saw this thing all the way back at Computex, where Lenovo gave us a fairly hands-off peek, taking care to conceal most of the device's specs. Later, it turned up in the FCC and in official documents, letting us know the slate would actually be arriving quite soon.

And here it is! As we previously reported, this is a 10-inch slate running Windows 8 and an Intel Atom processor. And yes, it will replace the current ThinkPad Tablet, which runs Android. Other key specs include a 1,366 x 768 IPS display, a 10-hour battery, optional 3G / 4G, micro-HDMI output and a pair of 2MP / 8MP cameras. For the most part, that cellular connection will take the form of HSPA+ but in the US, at least, the tablet will be available on AT&T's LTE network. And, as we learned in more recent leaks, this 9.8mm-thick tablet makes room for an NFC radio, along with a fingerprint reader and a pen, which can be stowed in a slot on the tablet. Additionally, it will be sold alongside an optional keyboard, as well as a dock with three USB ports, HDMI-out and an Ethernet jack.

The one thing we don't know? The price. So far, Lenovo is only saying the tablet will be available in October, when Windows 8 starts shipping. For now, we've got a mix of glossy press shots for your viewing pleasure, along with some hands-on photos we took in advance of tonight's announcement.

Official: Ford C-Max Hybrid officially gets 47 mpg across the board; Energi hits 85 mph in EV mode

2013 Ford C-Max Hybrid - overhead front three-quarter view, silver

Two new announcements about Ford and its upcoming C-Max line of vehicles arrived today, emphasizing the vehicles' efficiency and electric performance.

For the C-Max Hybrid, the previously predicted miles per gallon rating of 47 mpg is now official, per the EPA, and will apply across the board. That means city, highway and combined mileage ratings are all 47. As anyone Ford can reach with a PR blast knows, this beats at least one of the mpg numbers for the Toyota Prius V by seven mpg. The world's most popular hybrid lineup, in V guise, gets 44 mpg in the city, 40 on the highway and 42 combined. The standard Prius Liftback version, of course, gets 51 city, 48 highway and 50 combined.

More interesting, perhaps, is the news that the plug-in Energi model will be able to go up to 85 miles per hour in all-electric mode. Once again, Ford is hammering the Prius comparison, saying that speed is "more than 20 mph higher than Toyota Prius plug-in." The C-Max Hybrid can go up to 62 miles an hour in EV mode.

To engage EV mode in the C-Max Energi, Ford uses a "unique EV mode button allows customers to deliver electric power on-demand." We're not sure what makes it unique (other plug-ins have powertrain mode selector buttons), but it does have three modes: EV Now (where the car is only moved by battery power, as long as it's available), EV Auto (normal operation, with both battery and gas engine used for propulsion) or EV Later, a "battery-saving mode that reserves the pack power for later use." (Think of the Chevrolet Volt mountain mode.) The Energi goes on sale in limited areas this fall and nationwide in early 2013.

Oh, Ford also says, "With a fully charged battery, C-MAX Energi is rated at 195 horsepower, versus 188 horsepower for Toyota Prius." It's pretty clear which competitors Ford is going after here, isn't it?

Official: Ferrari restoring Steve McQueen's 275 GTB/4 to factory condition

Steve McQueen's Ferrari 275 GTB4

Even 32 years since his death, Steve McQueen captures the imagination of driving enthusiasts. The actor's cars continue to fetch big bucks at auction. Last summer at Pebble Beach, McQueen's personal 1970 Porsche 911S, driven in the opening scene of Le Mans, sold for $1,375,000 - a figure nearly matched by the racing suit he donned for the same movie. His metallic brown 1963 Ferrari 250 GT Lusso sold at Christies a few years back for $2.3 million, and now another Ferrari from McQueen's past has returned home to Maranello.

The car in question is a 275 GTB/4 that the King of Cool acquired in San Francisco while filming Bullitt. Sometime after McQueen sold the car, its subsequent owner had its roof chopped off, transforming it into a de facto Spyder (there are only 10 real 275 GTB/4 NART Spyders). The car's new owner, however, has sent it back to Ferrari to have its roof rebuilt and the car returned to original factory specification.

The conversion is being undertaken by the Ferrari Classiche division, which will certify its authenticity once the process is completed. The unit was established in 2006 specifically for that purpose, and has since then dealt with some 3,300 classic Ferraris.

Official: 2013 Hyundai Elantra Coupe priced from $17,445*

2013 Hyundai Elantra Coupe - red - dynamic front three-quarter shot

Remember when Hyundai was a 98-pound weakling? Now it's become a muscle-bound bully, going and picking fights with the likes of Honda. As if the launch of the Elantra Coupe isn't enough of a slap in the face of Honda's two-door Civic, Hyundai's press release announcing pricing calls out Civic repeatedly.

"At $17,445 shoppers will discover best-in-class fuel economy, and more horsepower and interior space than Civic Coupe," reads the release, which draws further comparisons between the Elantra and Civic, while mostly ignoring other competitors.

The base Elantra Coupe is the GS model, which, when you add the $775 destination charge, will cost *$18,220. For that price you get air conditioning, heated seats, a stereo system with satellite radio and steering wheel audio controls, Bluetooth, keyless entry, 16-inch alloys and a few other common features. With its six-speed manual and 148-horsepower, 1.8-liter four cylinder, the Elantra Coupe GS is good for 40 mpg on the highway, according to Hyundai. Pricing on the GS climbs to $18,445, excluding destination, when you add an automatic transmission.

Hyundai will also be offering the Elantra Coupe in SE trim, with a base price of $19,745, excluding destination. The SE models have a sport-tuned suspension and 17-inch alloys, plus leather and a sunroof, among other niceties. A Technology Package with navigation and a better audio system will run $2,350, but will only be available on the automatic transmission-equipped SE, which starts at $20,745, excluding destination.
